Stockton native Brandon Leake took home the top prize - $1 million and the opportunity for a Las Vegas concert residency - as he was named victor of "America's Got Talent". Prior to his audition, no spoken word artist had ever been a contestant on the show, but it didn't take long for him to impress the judges and earn Howie Mandel's golden buzzer.
Season 15's runner-up, Broken Roots, also had a historic finish.
Usher, Ava Max and Blake Shelton also appeared on Wednesday night's season 15 finale.
Ahead of tonight's finale, host Terry Crews hosted a one-hour live special highlighting the show's Top 10 finalists and featuring an exclusive sneak peek at the preparations, along with never-before-seen backstage footage from the season. They were actually eliminated during the Judge Cuts, but brought back for the quarterfinals as a replacement for teen singer Thomas Day, who'd mysteriously dropped out at the last minute. Filming began earlier this year, but production was suspended after Klum fell ill, and resumed mid-June. Kelly Clarkson and Kenan Thompson both subbed for Cowell.
