Spectators lined up half a dozen along the track on a choppy autumn day, leaves and confetti spinning in the wind.

Astronaut Snoopy is the first big balloon in this year's lineup.

A new balloon by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama that's called Love Flies Up to the Sky did not fly in Thursday's parade. Messages were sent to Macy's representatives.

The National Weather Service had projected sustained winds of up to 24 miles per hour with gusts to 40 miles per hour during the parade. The Grinch balloon touched some trees as he crossed the corner, drawing "oooh!"

For the fourth year, Macy's, along with NBCUniversal and Verizon, will give viewers an up close and personal second screen experience of the parade with a 360-degree livestream on Verizon's YouTube page.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade begins at 9 a.m. ET, and airs live from New York City on your local CBS or NBC station.

Joanna Mammen and her family came from Bradford County in northern Pennsylvania to revisit the parade she attended every year whereas growing up within the Bronx.

"Santa Claus was my favorite float in my childhood", said 69-year-old Mammen. "Quite a lot of the assorted floats from that time, the children on the 2d wouldn't even acknowledge".

At many points, the gusts pushed balloons toward the bleachers on Central Park and shrieks came from the crowd especially when Ronald McDonald lurched above, according to the New York Times.

This was the first experience of her husband, Bill.

"Thanksgiving is not only the people I love".

Balloon handlers and a specially trained NYPD sergeant were on hand during the parade to monitor wind gusts and determine the safest course, respectively. They will be flying at lower levels.

Not all of the balloons completed the parade. "You develop up seeing glimpses on TV, however it completely's something I knew I mandatory to trip".
