Late Aspas free-kick deals Barcelona huge title blow

A trip to Galicia had always looked like a awful fixture for this Barca side, of course.

Celta climb to 16th, eight points clear of the bottom three.

Suarez came to the rescue again as he gave the tourists a lead in the 60th minute, making his team believe that they have weathered the storm for the day.

Currently, Barcelona have a goal difference of 39 while Real Madrid sit on 38. "They're situations you have to accept and try and change and improve".

However, there will be nothing but devastation at having dropped two points in a game in which they led twice.

'We're there to do our best on the pitch. "You're left with a feeling of frustration", he continued.

Suarez had scored both of Barca's goals, at least, proving that class is indeed permanent.

Just after Celta made it 1-1, Barcelona claimed a penalty on Leo Messi in an incident which saw Jacobo collide with him after the Argentine shot.

Late Aspas free-kick deals Barcelona huge title blow

Suarez's return to form is undoubtedly timely but whether it will be enough to swing the title race back in Barca's favour is now debatable. The first half ended with the visitors leading.

For the second game in a row, Griezmann started on the bench for the defending champions, with 17-year-old Ansu Fati getting the nod.

In a bid to counter Messi's dead-ball prowess, Celta had put a couple of men on the line when he set himself to take a free kick.

Aspas sent Okay Yokuslu sprinting in behind and he squared for Smolov to tap in.

It can be recalled that as Aspas struck the ball with his left foot, Griezmann jumped and turned his back apparently resulting to the ball subsequently finding a way into the bottom corner of the net.

The game had rhythm, and Celta were nearly back in it three minutes later when Brais Mendez was put through by former Barca midfielder Denis Suarez, only for Marc Andre Ter Stegen to get a slight touch to take the ball onto the post.

All is not lost, of course.
