Having returned to Germany, Gnabry has blossomed into one of the best wingers in the Bundesliga, and Wenger revealed his shock at watching his former protégé score four against Arsenal's feted North London rivals Tottenham.

"I like the player and I thought it was a good decision [to buy him]", he added. "I see some characteristics of his game, especially off the ball, that don't happen at the moment", he said.

Van Persie was signed by Wenger in 2004 following the club's famous "invincible" season and went on to enjoy eight years at the club.

He has had multiple offers from some Premier League clubs as well, the report states, but he has turned all of them down because of his long-term association with Arsenal. "On the other hand, I must say we have good young players who can play on the flanks, [and] that he will have a fight to keep his position".

And Parlour, who enjoyed a trophy-laden 12-year career with the North London side, can not see a way back for the ex-Real Madrid star.

"I am not sure I will stop coaching as well".

He acknowledged: 'We focus on plenty in working in direction of, in games on what I will persist with it the pitch or in my private lifestyles.

He said: "Arsène was very special to me, he's like my football dad".

"I cried after every defeat and so above all I think there is a legacy there and I believe I contributed to the development of the club all over the world".

"You have got youngsters that deserve an opportunity probably more than him at the moment".

'I know he trusts me plenty because I've started the total games within the Premier League since the initiate of the season. I think that's probably the end of his career at Arsenal.
