San Diego County's rate is below the statewide rate of 5.7 percent and above the 4.8 percent rate nationwide, according to EDD data. Utah's unemployment rate is 3.6 percent, and Idaho's is 4 per cent.

The New Haven labor market was hit hard in October, losing 1,400 jobs last month.

"October marks the fifth consecutive month that Arkansas' unemployment rate has declined and the twenty-third straight month that employment increased", said Susan Price, programs operations manager for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The EDD said California's October unemployment rate was 5.8 percent, compared with 7.2 percent for October 2014.

Applications for unemployment aid dropped last week to a seasonally adjusted 271,000. Since the start of the year, Tennessee's unemployment rate has declined from January's 6.7 percent and last month's jobless rate was down from 6.6 percent in the same month a year ago. Arkansas' civilian labor force decreased 100, a result of 1,300 fewer unemployed and 1,200 more employed Arkansans. The last time the state's unemployment rate was that low was in March 2008, right before the start of the recession. The October 2014 figure was 3 percent. The national rate was 5 percent in October.

Unemployment rates were computed from unrounded data.

September's job loss was revised to stand at 4,800.

The number of government jobs in OC increased by 6,700, largely due to "continuing seasonal gains in local government education following the summer recess", according to the department. Nonfarm payrolls grew an estimated 13,000 with the largest gains in professional and business services, construction and financial activities.

Peter Gioia, the economist for the CT Business and Industry Association, said the 24,000-job increase in a year is disappointing.

"Today we are proud to announce that October was the highest month for job growth in ten years, with 36,600 private-sector jobs created in Florida", Scott said in a statement.
