According to Variety, Gaga went into more detail about working with Grande in an interview with Zane Lowe. Gaga revealed, "I sat with her [Ariana] and we talked about our lives". Okay, I'm going to keep on drinking. "And that's amusing because I am a pop person, but it's just, everyone knows that my heart is kind of rooted in the R&B influence music that I make, and that's where my heart is, but it just felt so good and fun and happy to dip a toe into her world a little bit, and to try this on for size, it was so nice", she explained. "And I was too ashamed to hang out with her, because I didn't want to project all of this negativity onto something that was healing and so lovely".

"Rain on Me" is all about dancing through your tears and pain. "And I was too ashamed to hang out with her because I didn't want to project all of this negativity onto something that was healing and so handsome", the 34-year-old singer revealed to Zane.

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande released the full audio for "Rain On Me" at midnight with the video for the uptempo techno record being released during the day on Friday. Gaga didn't want to spread negativity, so she felt ashamed being around Grande. @arianagrande I love you for your strength and friendship. "Instead of fighting it, I thought bring it on, I can do hard things", Lady Gaga tweeted upon the song's release.
