Apple's AirPods Max Over-Ear Headphones Are Here, and They're Expensive

Per Apple, these new headphones look just like the Samsung/Bose/Beats ones you threw out last ear because they were too bulky, but apparently the AirPods Max's are worth their insane price tag because they "bring the magic of AirPods to an over-ear design with high-fidelity sound", and lol sorry, they lost me at "the magic of AirPods". The AirPods Max can be had in five color options-space grey, silver, green, sky blue and pink, all in dual tone finish. Engraving is also available for free, and AppleCare+ adds another $59 to the cost. Apple's new headphones come in an eye-catching stainless steel design, complete with 40mm drivers for pumping out satisfying bass and crisp highs for your favorite music.

Apple's long-awaited AirPods Max headphones are official, and they're super promising - and super expensive. At the heart of the AirPods Max is Apple's H1 chipset, which Apple claims powers not only the Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode and Spatial Audio we've seen on the AirPods Pro, but the Adaptive EQ previously exclusive to the HomePod range.

With AirPods Max, however, you get an all-new acoustic experience.

Continuing the physical tour of the AirPods Max, Apple offers a pretty-nice mix of physical controls and advanced sensors.

Apple launched its AirPods earphones in 2016 when it removed the iPhone's headphone jack. Each one has 10 audio cores - capable of 9 billion operations per second - that will be used to drive the headphones' computational audio powers for all of the above, as well as a transparency mode and spatial audio.

Shipping times for the recently announced AirPods Max are already starting to extend, with estimated delivery times for some models slipping well into 2021.

The AirPods Max boasts of a custom acoustic design, H1 chips, and active noise cancellation feature among others. Battery life is rated at 20 hours. Some of its features include Adaptive EQ (equalizer) that changes dynamically adjust the frequencies of the audio depending on real-time factors like the fit and seal of the headphones. A Digital Crown, inspired by the Apple Watch design, offers precise volume controls, as well as the ability to play or pause audio, skip tracks, answer or end phone calls, and activate Siri.

AirPods Max comes with a soft, slim Smart Case that helps preserve battery charge when not in use.

Active Noise Cancellation - Each ear cup features three outward-facing microphones to detect environmental noise, while one microphone inside the ear cup monitors the sound reaching the listener's ear.

AirPods Max are not designed for use with non-Apple products. or even older Apple products.

They're also created to play well with Apple devices, with one-tap setup and automatic pairing with devices signed into a user's iCloud account.
