Anushka Sharma REACTS on Sunil Gavaskar's 'distasteful' comment on her & Virat Kohli

Sunil Gavaskar

Virat Kohli (L) and Bollywood start Anushka Sharma.

Referring to a video of Kohli and Sharma playing cricket during the country's coronavirus lockdown, Gavaskar, in the commentary box had said: "Inhone lockdown me toh bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hai, (he has only faced Anushka's bowling in lockdown)".

"That, Mr Gavaskar, your message was distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her for her husband's game?", she wrote. I'm sure over the years you've respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game. "You know me, I am the one who has always batted for wives going with husbands on tour". She posted a lengthy statement on her Instagram story, asking the reason for pulling her name unnecessarily. I have seen a video how he practiced on Anushka's bowling during the lockdown. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements. Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman's game. However, the comment did not go down well with Kohli and Anushka's fans and some even demanded his sacking from Star Sports commentary panel, lashing out at him on social media.

People all over the internet were disappointed over the "sexist" remark. I am only saying that the video said that she was bowling to Virat.

However, netizens are still not convinced as they felt that Gavaskar had no business to even remotely link Kohli's poor performance to his celebrity wife.

Kohli-Anushka baby announcement triggers wave of memes on Twitter...'Taimur's Competitor among them

Yesterday's IPL game between RCB and KXIP didn't really go well with Virat Kohli. A few days later, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli took to social media to announce that they were expecting their first child in January. While speaking to India Today, the cricketer-turned-commentator clarified his stance on the issue, saying that he never blamed Anushka for Kohli's failures.

"The best thing was Anushka and myself were at home".

"Virat has played only that bowling during the lockdown period".

Former team director of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Joy Bhattacharya, quoted a video tweet where a user has shared the concerned clip of Gavaskar's comments. He was referring to a viral video in which the 31-year-old and Anushka were spotted playing cricket in their apartment during the lockdown.
