Since the devastating season-ending Achilles injury suffered by DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis has carried the New Orleans Pelicans on his back and performed at an incredible level over the last month.
The Pelicans, who visited Sacramento late Wednesday night, now settle back into their familiar surroundings, playing eight of their next nine games in the Smoothie King Center, starting at 7 p.m. Friday against the Washington Wizards. After the game, Davis said it was no big deal, but the team did plan on getting an MRI Thursday. It does not appear as if Matthew Dellavedova (right ankle) will return soon. "They said I was fine, and I went back out".
Davis has never played more than 75 games in any of his six National Basketball Association seasons.
"We can do that against teams like this", Davis said. "We wish it weren't that way, but he's a guy who's going to do everything to help us win games". Nikola Mirotic continued his outstanding play, scoring 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting and adding 10 rebounds for his first double-double since February 12.
The New Orleans Pelicans are thriving and enjoying their ninth straight win. Sacramento (20-44) has won two of its past three at home but has been mostly piling up losses while giving heavy minutes to youngsters.
The Clippers wiped out a 21-point deficit to beat the Pelicans the last time the teams played, less than 24 hours before they pulled off the blockbuster January 29 trade that sent Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons for a package of players and draft picks that included Tobias Harris. He left early in the first quarter due to lower back stiffness.
"The Nets made shot after shot and they played extremely hard", Clippers coach Doc Rivers said.
He tied his career high with four 3-pointers and had 13 rebounds. The Pelicans shot 56.6 percent for the game, dropping the Kings to 8-25 when their opponent shoots 50 percent or better. I'm pretty confident that he'll stay. "Now it seems that I did get my rhythm".
Analysis: The Pelicans have won eight in a row and it's kept them in a very tight playoff race near the bottom of the western conference playoffs. "We knew this was going to be a tough road trip". "We've done a good job with that".
Clippers: Remain at home Tuesday to play New Orleans.
Houston still ended up hitting 47 percent from the floor and 35 percent (14 of 40) from 3-point range, and held a 22-14 edge in fast-break points.
