Addison Rae comes out with an apology following racism allegations
Jul 11 2020
In case you missed it, the TikTok teen sensation recently came under fire after fans dug up a video she previously shared in support for "All Lives Matter", the widely-recognized slogan which is essentially the antithesis of the Black Lives Matter movement for racial justice and equality. "Four years ago, I reposted a video which included a woman sharing her thoughts on Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter that I should not have".
"Because of my privilege, I didn't understand and wasn't educated enough about the social injustices facing the Black community", she wrote.
"All lives can not matter until Black lives do", she continued and reminded fans. "The Black neighborhood was and continues to be oppressed and harmed by systemic racism". She hadn't posted on TikTok since 29th June, and hadn't tweeted since the 30th.
As of July 2020, Addison is the second most-followed account on TikTok, right behind friend, Charli D'Amelio. As extra individuals respond to a controversial video she reposted, the social media star has issued an apology.
Some fans weren't satisfied with her apology.
Nevertheless, she's apparently committed to "learning" and making amends for her "mistakes", now!
Addison Rae, who has nearly 50 million followers on the short video app, shared a TikTok post in May this year in response to the death of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man who was killed in police custody after being arrested for allegedly using a counterfeit $20 bill.
Rae ended her message by promising to use her platform to work toward a better ally, but it seems not everyone is happy with her statement. "It should have been addressed immediately and I've lost all respect for you", one said.
The false death report caused her fans to contact Addison's local hospitals in a bid to find the truth after speculation grew that she drowned.
However, Addison's current social media silence comes after she faced blackfishing accusations.
"I don't know where that even.like half the stuff that's just pulled up on social media, like how does that even happen?"
The brunette 19-year-old regularly presents on the uber well-known internet based life stage on various occasions a day, consistently so when she out of nowhere went quiet, and fans started to estimate that something was wrong. "She's not pregnant. I don't know why that's a thing".
After taking a two-week hiatus from social media, Addison shared a statement on Twitter, apologizing for her actions.
