Amazon's Echo Show just lost a critical feature after an apparent spat with Google. There is no technical reason for that decision, which is disappointing and hurts both of our customers.
Google says that Amazon's Echo-with-a-screen creates a "broken user experience", and it seems the company would rather there was no customer experience than a broken one. Amazon's Echo Show has only been on sale since June 2017, as part of its growing suite of smart products.
For now, Google is saying it hopes to reach an agreement with Amazon to resolve the issues soon. However, Google furtively pulled out YouTube from the device yesterday without giving customers any notification prior to abandonment of the platform.
Echo Plus: This one looks like the old Echo device, but is silver.
You can pre-order it from Amazon for $149.99, and for a limited time, a Phillips Hue Bulb is included with every purchase.
"Things get harder for end users because these companies can't get along", Mr Dawson said. So not having YouTube available is pretty annoying and maybe even pointless. But who can blame Google?
The online retailer also announced a premium version of the device called the Echo Plus, which has improved sound and can act as the hub of a smart home and sell for $150. Just like the Google Home, the user can choose between the different color options of the outer shell.
