Yoel Romero Fails to Make Weight vs. Robert Whittaker, UFC 225 Not for Title

According to MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz, Romero's second and final weight-in attempt clocked in at 185.2 pounds after he initially weighed in at 186 pounds earlier Friday morning.

As Jeff Horn vies for boxing glory in Las Vegas on Sunday, Whittaker will lead an Australian invasion of UFC 225 in Chicago.

The two combatants met at UFC 213 last summer for the interim middleweight belt when Whittaker defeated Romero in a closely contested battle via a unanimous decision.

"It's great in one sense, that Rob can't lose the belt but obviously we wanted to fight for the title".

"This fight, as far as I'm concerned, I have 25 minutes to try to finish him - and I'm going to use every single second of those minutes to try to achieve that". Romero knocked out Rockhold in the second round.

Because of failing to make weight, Romero will not be eligible to win the title. Soldier of God ultimately won that bout via third-round knockout.

"I think suspensions are in order, I really do", Whittaker said, per Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole.

The Cuban has tipped the scales before, last time in February for a fight in Perth.

"Yoel Romero's a hard dude on the best of nights", he said. "I'm refueling and getting ready for a fight".

CM Punk is the underdog in his UFC 225 fight tonight against Mike Jackson.

Breakout Sydney heavyweight Tai Tuivasa (7-0) faces his toughest test yet in Andrei Arlovski (27-15), a veteran of 25 UFC fights.
