White Sox 3B Frazier (flu) leaves game

Aaron Judge and Matt Holliday both hit home runs, driving in six of the Yankees seven runs and Starlin Castro continued his usual fast start to a season with three more hits raising his batting average to.365, putting him along with Headley on the leaderboard in American League stats.

"There were a lot of firsts, " Warren said.

The Yankees, who are off to a hot start of their own and are now just a half game behind the Baltimore Orioles for the top spot in the American League East, will be looking to stymie the White Sox momentum after the won two out of three games against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field over the weekend.

Judge drove one home with a single in the third and then blasted a two-run knocker in the bottom of the fifth frame. The 6-foot-6 lefty was an afterthought in spring training until he kept getting hitters out with his deceptive delivery and his arsenal of finesse pitches.

The pitcher who pitched once in the College World Series for SC has played in two games so far in his rookie campaign. Across two starts this year, Severino has a 1-0 record, a 4.50 ERA and 17 Ks in 12.0 innings.

"When I played with the Yankees it was a great time, especially because they gave me an opportunity after I played for the Mets".

The 28-year-old lefty started his career in NY with the Mets in 2006, but he was released in just two years. Holliday had been hitless in his previous dozen at-bats and missed the previous two games with lower-back stiffness. After striking out he remained in the game at first base.

Judge added a run-scoring single to complete the third-inning outburst for NY.

Derek Holland allowed no runs over 6.0 innings at Cleveland last Wednesday, the first time he prevented an opponent from scoring in any start since April 30, 2016. "I'm sure he'll think about that, but that's ok", Girardi said.

Despite breaking out of his slump Sunday night with a huge game at the plate, Yankees 1B Greg Bird was left on the bench in favor of Chris Carter. "Holland's really tough on left-handers", Girardi explained.

But there's been plenty for Girardi to like about his offense, also.

Bird hit for Carter in the eighth. White Sox manager Rick Renteria said Frazier would have been available to pinch hit if needed. Bench coach Joe McEwing went to the mound and removed Holland.

Yankees: SS Didi Gregorius (right shoulder strain) could play in a simulated game in the next few days. He is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment soon.

RHP Luis Severino (1-0) looks to extend New York's winning streak Tuesday night when he faces RHP Miguel Gonzalez (1-0) in the second game of the series. Montgomery's seven strikeouts were the most by a Yankee in an Major League Baseball debut since Luis Severino in 2015 (also seven).
