Xiaomi's co-founder and Senior Vice President, Liwan Jiang, has recently confirmed through his official Weibo account, via Google Translate, that the upcoming phone, Xiaomi Mi 5, is now set to be powered by Qualcomm's next-gen chipset, the Snapdragon 820.

If you're waiting for Xiaomi to introduce its flagship smartphone, the Mi5, at CES 2016 trade fair, then you will be disappointed since the Chinese company has no intention of doing that.

Unfortunately for Xiaomi, that did not happen, and that title now belongs to LeTV's Max Pro phablet that we reported on yesterday.

Xiaomi is reportedly working on its latest flagship device, the Xiaomi Mi5.

The handset is said to come in two memory and storage versions - 3GB of RAM with 32GB inbuilt storage, and 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage. The front appears to have a 2.5 D glass while the back is similar to what we have on the Mi Note. In addition to these rumors, word on the street is that the Xiaomi Mi 5 is going to be equipped with a 16 MP lens for its main camera and 13 MP for the front-facing snapper. It is also rumored to feature a 13MP selfie cam, dual-SIM functionality, a 3,000mAh battery with Android 6.0 Marshmallow preinstalled.

Xiaomi Technology is ready to roll out its new smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 5, shortly after the Lunar New Year holidays, according to a China-based report.
