Xbox Details Specs for Next Gen 'Scarlett' Console

Microsoft Teases Xbox Scarlet Reveal in Hidden Codes - E3 2019

Today at their impressive E3 press conference, Microsoft delivered just what many of us expected, with new news on their next generation of gaming hardware, Project Scarlett.

Project Scarlett will set a new bar for console power, speed and performance.

Microsoft revealed the first details on the new console's specs and how the console will overall fit into the Xbox platform portfolio. Though we did not get to see the unit itself, the presentation was full of promise.

Analysts have said Microsoft is better positioned than most to capitalize on cloud gaming, citing its strength in infrastructure, content it owns, and experience in gaming. We have added that info in the hub below.

The Halo franchise certainly lost a lot of steam following the release of Halo 5, but Microsoft and 343 Industries are looking to win a lot of fans back with the release of Halo: Infinite. Compared to the HDD that comes standard on the Xbox One X, Microsoft says that Project Scarlett's SSD is 40x faster which should make for some insanely fast load times. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will convert your remaining Gold / Game Pass months at a 1:1 ratio.

Currently, the console's focus is primarily video games. It mentioned it would have a custom processor made by AMD that will use the latest Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture.

Courtesy of this hardware, Scarlett will include support for a "variable" 120Hz refresh rate, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, 8K resolutions, and "ultra-low latency input".

The Xbox Scarlett is planned for a Holiday 2020 release with Halo Infinite.
