Bahrain Executes 3 Convicted in Deadly Bomb Attack on Police

The executions were the first in the US -allied nation since 2010 and followed a spike in protests in solidarity with the convicted men and clashes between activists and police the previous day. Images shared on social media showed some activists blocking roads with burning debris and hurling petrol bombs in clashes with police. The postings said at least one person was hurt by birdshot, according to a Twitter posting which included a photograph of a young man bleeding from an eyebrow.

Dozens missing after refugee boat sinks off Libyan coast

Coastguard and naval ships as well as privately owned fishing and merchant vessels rescued the people from six boats in the central Mediterranean over the last 24 hours, a coastguard spokesman said. Survivors told MSF panic had broken out as they departed from Libya "after shooting started off the coastline". The number of migrants travelling to Europe by land has dropped since the height of the migrant crisis in late 2015, but sea crossings remain both popular and risky.

Brazil police quell latest deadly jail riot

At least three prisoners were decapitated inside the Alcazuz prison, in the city of Natal, the largest in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Police surrounded the prison overnight, but waited until noon to enter because of reports that inmates remained armed and out of their cells.

Que Langdon reunited with her mother in Australia

The pair survived nearly a month on the catamaran that was reportedly built in Mr Langdon's garden and made it 1,200 miles from New Zealand's North Island across the Tasman Sea - one of the roughest stretches of water in the world. "They chatted briefly and Que informed her mother she missed her, loved her and was thrilled to see her". Mr Langdon said Que went into the toilet and vanished.
