The University of Wisconsin says the wife and daughter of men's basketball assistant coach Howard Moore were killed in a MI automobile accident. Howard Moore, who is now an assistant at the University of Wisconsin, suffered third-degree burns but is expected to survive.
In the vehicle she struck, a female child also was killed and pronounced dead at the scene, two others were critically injured and a male child suffered minor injuries, Green said.
After being flown to the University of MI hospital, Jennifer Moore died later that day, Green said.
Jennifer Moore had family in metro-Detroit that the family was traveling to see for the holdiay weekend, Lt. Darren Green said at a press conference Sunday, May 26, at the MSP Brighton post.
Samantha Winchester, 23, of Ann Arbor, was the wrong-way driver involved in a crash that killed the wife and daughter of the Wisconsin Badgers Assistant Basketball Coach Howard Moore. "Our prayers, love and support go out to the Moore and Barnes family". "Howard is so much more than a colleague and coach", the statement read. Their positivity and energy lift up those around them.
Jennifer Moore, 46, was driving and was cleared of any wrongdoing, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Police believe she, along with the family dog, were trapped inside the vehicle and died at the scene, he said. The female driver was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. When toxicology reports, autopsies and the accident reconstruction reports are done, he said police will hopefully have a "clearer picture" on what took place. "We will miss Jen and Jaidyn dearly and we will put our arms around Howard and Jerell and the entire family, giving them love and support during this unspeakable time".
Gard and other Wisconsin coaches traveled to MI on Saturday to support Moore before returning to Madison, Wis. Moore, who played at the school from 1990 to 1995, is in his second stint as an assistant coach with the program. He played college ball for Wisconsin in the 1990s. He rejoined the school in 2016 after serving as head coach at Illinois-Chicago from 2010-15.
Louisville coach Chris Mack, South Carolina coach Frank Martin and Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin also posted words for Moore.
