Will hang myself if charges are proved: Gambhir on pamphlet row
May 12 2019
The AAP on Thursday accused BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir of distributing "derogatory notes" against his rival from East Delhi, Atishi. The BJP alleged that the AAP was staging such incidents. Tweeting a picture of Gambhir sitting inside a vehicle, Sisodia said, "Gambhir is sitting inside an AC auto due to scorching heat, while his lookalike who is a Congress leader is campaigning on his behalf".
The AAP leader, at a media briefing at the party's headquarters, showed the pamphlet, which she claimed was circulated in the East Delhi constituency along with the morning newspaper.
Polling for seven Lok Sabha seats in the Capital will take place on May 12. Gautam Gambhir is sitting below in an AC auto. "If he is doing this against one woman, what about the lakhs of women in east Delhi who are anxious about their safety", she said.
The nine-page legal notice - sent through Arun Jaitley's daughter Sonali Jaitley - demands immediate withdrawal of each statement made against Mr Gambhir and denies that the former cricketer had any relation to the pamphlet. Otherwise @ArvindKejriwal should quit politics.
"Soon after the allegations surfaced, he had already chose to face the issue on his own and with minimal involvement from the party as a result of which he sent the defamation notice to AAP and its leaders after getting a go-ahead from the party's high command", said a party source.
"You can't tarnish someone's image without proof".
The AAP senior leader shared the pictures of the alegged duplicate on Twitter, claiming that impersonator is a Congress leader. How can women expect safety if people wid such mentality are voted in? "Atishi, stay strong. I can imagine how hard it must be for u".
In his tweet, Gambhir wrote that he "abhors your act of outraging a woman's modesty". And all this for winning elections? "You are filth Mr CM and someone needs your very own jhadu (broom) to clean your dirty mind".
"My Challenge no.2 @ArvindKejriwal @AtishiAAP I declare that if its proven that I did it, I will withdraw my candidature right now".
"I came into politics to fight against injustice; and this sickening pamphlet has only strengthened my resolve", she tweeted today.
