Ander Herrera will leave at the end of the season

In the Portuguese's first season in charge Herrera was fantastic, playing as a defensive midfielder who not only protected his defence but gave Paul Pogba the platform to perform.

As fans saw Herrera as one of them, Manchester United social media team made a decision to release an emotionally driven video.

But the most successful club in the Premier League felt the player's demand was too much.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed last month that Antonio Valencia will also leave the club this summer.

The 29-year-old midfielder's contract expired this summer and the Red Devils aggressive midfielder refused to extend his contract despite united nearly willing to double his wages.

Herrera's contract is set to expire at the end of June and reports suggest that the midfielder is likely to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this summer after agreeing on terms with the Ligue 1 champions. I can not lie - I wasn't born a Manchester United fan, but I want everyone to know that a part of my heart will always be a red devil.

"I felt proud when the fans decided I was part of the club's history".

The video hears Herrera thanking the club and its fans for these five "amazing" years while showing a montage of clips from his time in Manchester.

"I am going to remember each of the nearly 200 games that I played with this jersey because playing for the greatest club in England has been a true honour". He won the FA Cup, League Cup and the Europa League in his time at the club. The fears multiplied, with PSG being heavily linked with a move for Herrera.
