What each Home Nation needs to qualify for the World Cup

There is a feeling Wilshere could be the man to add imagination to an England midfield

Striker Harry Kane scored the only goal for England, in injury time, to finally overcome Slovenia, who are ranked only 55th in the world.

Harry Kane secured qualification for Gareth Southgate's team in Russian Federation next summer with a late tap-in in a 1-0 win over Slovenia on Thursday night.

The win sends England to Russian Federation, but there's very little excitement about this team's chances in next year's tournament.

Kane said afterwards: "It was frustrating at times out there".

Just two points separate the top four countries in Group I, with Croatia and Iceland leading the way on 16 points ahead of Turkey and Ukraine, who are both on 14.

It took a 94th-minute goal to overcome a resilient Slovenian side with little ambition to win the game.

Srecko Katanec: "Congratulations to England, they maybe not deserved this victory but they scored a goal".

The former Liverpool player was withdrawn at halftime in England's win over Malta last month and played seven minutes in the subsequent fixture against Slovakia.

England's best chance of the first half fell to Jordan Henderson but Atletico Madrid 'keeper Jan Oblak got down well to keep out the midfielder's low effort.

"Analysis is important because it's how it's interpreted - we've presented the Germans as a formidable opponent but not an invincible opponent", he said.

"Some of that can happen before Russian Federation, some can't because in certain areas there are maybe young players in our system who aren't going to be ready for the next 18 months, two years".

"It's not a relief, I always thought we'd achieve the objective [of qualifying]".

"We are getting to know each other more and more, every time we are together. We had a few chances and I was happy to put one away".

It had looked as though it was going to be a frustrating night for England, with Slovenia running a tight ship throughout before opening up towards the end of the game.

"That one hurt", Hart said.

"I think people want to come and see goals and be entertained".
