Going all out to play 'all-out evil'

"Dunkirk" rolled along in its third week of release, and took second place with a $17.6 million weekend.

Comingsoon.net recently spoke to The Dark Tower filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel, who discussed the film's ending, where it appeared the villain, the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), was dispatched for good.

The lackluster weekend box office numbers also didn't fare well for Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit, based on the brutal real-life murders of three young black men at the Algiers Motel during the 1967 riots in MI.

Idris Elba stars as the Gunslinger in the film "The Dark Tower". However, with no other competition as most audiences have seen current releases "Spider-Man: Homecoming", "Dunkirk", and "Despicable Me 3", it turns out the greatest strength "The Dark Tower " had was being placed at the ideal weekend.

It has been a huge hit with cinema-goers and has already made 133.6 million dollars (£102.3 million) in the US. While the tepid adaptation of Stephen King's vast and beloved mythology wasn't exactly a bank-buster as far as its rumored $60 million budget is concerned, its inauspicious beginning is already casting doubt on the planned TV and feature franchise. The movie got the highest revenue from Russian Federation of $4.1 million out of $8 million from the 19 different markets.

That leaves "Kidnap" ― from David Dinerstein's recently-launched Aviron, and Lotus ― which is racing to $10.2 million from 2,378 locations. Warner Bros. also continues to see profits from "Wonder Woman", which will land right up against the $400 million domestic milestone by the end of this weekend. Sheridan conceived the movie as part of a loose trilogy that also includes two recent releases that he wrote, but did not direct, "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water".
