Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg said in February that the company is planning to roll out 5G network service to more than 30 US cities in 2019. The carrier plans to have more than 30 US markets running 5G connections by the end of the year.

Verizon also announced that its next-generation wireless service will cost $10 more per month on top of its existing unlimited plans. If you want one, the 5G Moto Mod will go up for pre-order on March 14 for $50.

In Chicago, you'll have access to Verizon's 5G in The Loop, Magnificent Mile (around the Verizon store there), The Gold Coast, River North and Old Town at the outset.

Finally, the last obstacle between you and 5G is a compatible device. The Moto Z3 launched several months ago and is ready to deliver 5G speeds as soon as you cough up the cash for the brand new 5G Moto Mod that goes along with it.

Whether Verizon can hold onto higher prices for its 5G mobile network will depend on decisions made in Washington, D.C., where lawmakers are deliberating the wisdom of a T-Mobile and Sprint merger. As announced previous year, the Moto Mod is essentially a detachable 5G antenna for the Moto Z3.

The offer is available only on unlimited plans, which now start at $75 for one person without 5G. The 5G service will begin on April 11 in select parts of Chicago and Minneapolis. Alternatively, you can upgrade your smartphone to a Moto Z3 for $10 a month for 24 months, which means you'd save $240 off the regular price. 5G service in Minneapolis will be in Downtown West, Downtown East, and Elliot Park.

"We can tell you that 5G Moto Mod users will experience ultra-fast speeds, be able to download and stream movies in seconds, and, due to 5G's low latency, they'll be able to video conference and collaborate remotely in near real-time", Verizon told Ars, when asked for specific speed and latency numbers.

Verizon is also planning to sell the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, but there's no availability date yet. For now, 5G Mobility is only in Chicago and Minneapolis.
