Where experts doubt North Korea's claims, is whether their missiles could actually deliver a nuclear warhead to everywhere in the U.S. Some experts believe the distance the rocker flew was aided by a lighter mock warhead.

Some experts said even the USA and Russian Federation would have trouble launching an entirely new ICBM in such a short time and suspect the North had help from scientists from the former Soviet Union.

The fact that the ministry officially recognized the capability of a North Korean ICBM to hit Washington DC is likely to lead to a major revision of the 4D Concept, an operational guideline to counter nuclear and missile threats from North Korea in four stages - Detect, Disrupt, Destroy and Defense.

The U.S. has been surprised in the past by the technological prowess of North Korea's missile and nuclear programs and the speed at which they have gotten there. The United States, which has 28,500 troops in South Korea as a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War, denies any such intention.
Tensions around North Korea are expected to rise in view of the upcoming South Korea-US drills with the mobilization of some 230 aircraft, including six US stealth fighter jets F-22 Raptor that arrived in South Korea earlier on Saturday.
The US's ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, on Wednesday said that the US was not seeking war with North Korea but that the latest launch "brings us closer to war".
North Korea said on Wednesday it had successfully tested a powerful new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that put the entire US mainland within range of its nuclear weapons.
