South Africa lost Aiden Markram, Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma as they reached 36-3 at the close.

After a superlative effort with the bat led by skipper Virat Kohli himself, Umesh Yadav picked two quick wickets to keep India in a commendable position on day two against South Africa in Pune.

"We enjoy each other's company", Rahane, who was involved in his 10th century stand with Kohli, said. Agarwal had scored a ton in the first Test against South Africa, which India went on to win by 203 runs.

Earlier, Kohli scored a record seventh double hundred of his career as the motley crowd at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium were treated to batting of the highest order. But India got their first two wickets in just four overs.

Kohli has now scored more than 7,000 Test runs at an average of over 53 since making his debut in the West Indies in 2011.

During the Indian innings, Jadeja's antics in the middle left Kohli smiling at the non-striker's end. He concentrated on all aspects of batsmanship: surviving the rough period, mixed defence with offence, stole runs, encourage his batting partners and deflated the opposition morale. After declaring at 601 for five, the home side came hard at the Proteas hurting them badly with three wickets. His 194 has included 28 fours and he's shared partnerships of 178 for the fourth wicket with Ajinkye Rahane and 97 with Ravi Jadeja, who was not out on 25 at tea. India sensed early blood and kept the momentum to remove the risky looking Dean Elgar to have South Africa at 13 for two. But none among the three pacers bowled in the last 18 overs and Rabada didn't bowl for nearly two and a half hours.

With this, South Africa's chances of winning this game are slim, as the Indian bowlers are showing no sign of being frustrated after picking 3 wickets in less than 15 overs. But of 84.3 overs of other three bowlers, they milked nearly 400 runs.

India's decision to bring in Umesh Yadav for this game paid off as he removed both openers.

Bavuma made eight before he was caught by keeper Wriddhiman Saha off pace bowler Mohammed Shami.
