Tulane gets high marks in latest US News Best Colleges rankings

U.S. News & World Report's "Best Colleges 2018" rankings hit the streets today, and Sweet Briar College has climbed six spots to land at No. 134 on the National Liberal Arts Colleges list. Clemson's overall score is its highest ever.

NC State again gained ground on one of the most closely watched rankings of the nation's colleges and universities, improving in measures of peer assessment, graduation rates, retention rates, selectivity and class size over a year ago.

The UI is now ranked 78th in the "Best National Universities" category, which contains 300 US public, private, and for-profit institutions.

Tied for 39th among national universities in a national survey of "High School Counselors Top College Picks".

Recently, NMSU ranked first in the country for federal obligations for science and engineering activities for minority-serving institutions according to a report from the National Science Foundation's National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics. U.S. News & World Report's own Best Global Universities list ranks the Westwood school 10th.

"We know that rankings matter because parents and students look to them to see how we're performing", Chancellor Douglas Girod said in a KU news release.

A spokeswoman for the publication told us previously that its own world rankings relied more on research and reputation while domestic ones are dependent on the quality of undergraduate education and good outcomes for students.

Albion College is 128 in the national liberal arts colleges rankings, down from 122 previous year. Bradley tied for 26th place, out of 200 colleges and universities across the country.

Cody said those measures include graduation rates, affordability and student and alumni successes.

For the 24th consecutive year, Oklahoma Baptist University is the highest-ranking Oklahoma school on the Best Regional Colleges list.

In addition, Misericordia University is on MONEY Magazine's 2017-18 Best Colleges list, the second highest ranked college or university in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties. Creighton also maintained its place at the top of the "Best College for Veterans" ranking in the Midwest, as well as earning a No. 3 spot for "Most Innovative Schools".

Princeton University and Harvard University retained their No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively.
