Lee, who emerged in recent days as one of the most diehard supporters of unbinding delegates and who has not endorsed Trump, cracked jokes with reporters and talked about how much he dislikes Pokemon Go ("I can't for the life of me figure out what is fun about Pokemon Go"). They eventually overruled the Alaskan delegates and regained control of the convention.

On the Republican National Convention's second night, two of his children Donald Trump Jr. and Tiffany Trump brought the crowd to its feet, revealing personal details and anecdotes.

Donald Jr. said that's why his father was able to defeat 16 other Republicans in the primary campaign, despite never having run for office.

Republicans will be closely watching House Speaker Paul Ryan, who has endorsed Trump despite disagreeing with him on numerous issues. Four of his children joined the state's delegation on the convention floor for the historic moment and appeared overwhelmed with emotion.

Both Mr Ryan and Mr McConnell need Mr Trump to do well in the November election as they seek to preserve majorities in Congress.

"So, because all candidates other than Trump dropped out, all of the former candidates' delegates were reallocated to Trump", said CNN delegate analyst and former Rubio staffer Will Holley.

Alaska chairman Tuckerman Babcock says he disagrees with the RNC ruling, although the state is behind Trump as the nominee. The night kicks off at 7 p.m. ET.

Republicans were also set to place in nomination Indiana Governor Mike Pence, 57, Trump's choice for his vice presidential running mate.
