Truck plows into crowd in Nice, France, many dead - paper

Germany's top security official says the attack in Nice is "incomprehensible and simply very bad", and that "this barbaric murder must be finally brought to an end".

"We quickly got back to the hotel and locked the door".

At Nice's Pasteur hospital, medical staff were treating large numbers of injuries.

"Tragic paradox that the subject of Nice attack was the people celebrating liberty, equality and fraternity", European Council President Donald Tusk said on Twitter.

"Two kilometers. He just kept driving, straight through. And France is a great country, and a great democracy that will not allow itself to be destabilized".

The driver of the truck has been identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year-old French-Tunisian man. It hasn't been confirmed that he was directly linked to ISIS, but the terror group has been celebrating the attack.

"We are heartbroken and in shock over the loss of Brodie Copeland, an incredible son and brother who lit up our lives, and Sean Copeland, a wonderful husband and father", the Copeland family said in a statement.
