Tripura: With Biplab Deb's swearing-in, first BJP government takes charge

Left front said that 400 of its offices were attacked after election results were announced in Tripura

"The swearing-in ceremony of Biplab and others marks the start of a new era of progress and prosperity".

The Assam government was committed to work together with the new dispensation in Tripura, the CM said. "I am confident this new team under the youthful and dynamic @BjpBiplab will fulfil the aspirations of the state's youth".

The Prime Minister made his appeal after Mr. Deb was sworn in as the Chief Minister.

A day after the State President of BJP, Biplab Kumar Deb took an oath as the new Chief Minister, the ruling government in Tripura on Saturday chose to set up a high-level expert body to propose ways and means to raise the salaries and allowances of the state government employees at par with the proposals of the Seventh Pay Commission.

Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Devvarma, who is yet to win an election from an Assembly seat, was given the portfolios of power, rural development, finance, planning and coordination.

Taking the party to the far-flung tribal regions in the state has been widely regarded as the key reason for the success and it was spearheaded by a former RSS worker called Biplab Deb. He was a volunteer with the RSS earlier.

But outgoing Chief Minister and CPI-M leader Manik Sarkar and senior party leaders attended.

The BJP has uprooted the 25-year long Left rule in Tripura.

In the February 18 polls, the BJP won 35 seats in the 60-member Assembly and the IPFT eight.
