Tributes paid to Mike Thalassitis after Love Island star dies at 26

The news was confirmed by his manager at the weekend, however the cause of his death has not yet been released.

According to The Mirror, Thalassitis' death comes two months after his best friend, Danny Cutts, suddenly died on Christmas Eve.

Love Island star and former Margate FC footballer Mike Thalassitis has died at the age of 26. "A lovely bloke gone far too soon".

Hughes hit Twitter to slam newspapers such as The Sun and the Daily Mail for using "Muggy Mike" in headlines to report the death of the 26-year-old.

Tyla Carr who had a romance with the star also tweeted: "I can't believe the call I've just had".

Mike had also appeared in Celebs Go Dating and was in a relationship with TOWIE's Megan McKenna before breaking up past year.

One user wrote: "I think they should cancel love island now". My heart is with your family. I won't forget that.it's so sad.you will be missed. "I'm in complete shock". This is horrendous. I'm in shock.

"Everyone at ITV2 and Love Island are shocked and saddened by this awful news", a spokesperson for ITV said, "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mike's family and friends at this very sad time".

"Wow feel bad for the argument I had with that lad! RIP [Mike Thalassitis] rest well handsome", Geordie Shore's Marty McKenna tweeted.

Johnny Mitchell, one of his Love Island friends, posted a long tribute to him on Instagram.

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mike's family and friends at this very sad time".

The original British version of ITV's Love Island launched in 2005, and was revived in 2015. "Once again thank you so much and let's try to give dan the best send off him and his family deserve". A fifth series is slated to air this year.
