Dana White Talks Possible Fines and Suspensions, Says Both Checks on Hold

The build up and aftermath of the fight was dominated by McGregor and Khabib's rivalry and disgusting behaviour but on Saturday night it was an excellent and compelling fight and it's a shame it won't be remembered for that. "It sucks." Submission defense has been McGregor's Achilles' heel throughout his career, with all four of his professional losses coming via submission.

White told reporters for ESPN that the Nevada State Atheltic Commission is now holding both McGregor's and Nurmagomedov's fight checks until further notice.

All of that means a rematch seems a long, long way off, if it ever happens at all. I kept saying this is too insane man.

Despite Khabib winning the fight, McGregor, who was sporting a black eye, insisted 'we won the battle (and) the war goes on'.

Many have previously touted the possibility of a match-up between Nurmagomedov and Canadian MMA legend Georges St-Pierre. And the same thing for the other guy. "They'll never fight here. It has to be a win, win, win situation".

The head of the Nevada Athletic Commission, Bob Bennett, told the Los Angeles Times he's launching a "comprehensive investigation" of the incident, and UFC president Dana White said late on Saturday it would not be surprising if Nurmagomedov receives a lengthy suspension and has his belt stripped.

This is perhaps the most obvious next step for McGregor.

Chuck Liddell took UFC to task for rewarding fighters for bad behavior, likely referencing Conor McGregor's recent bus attack before a UFC event in Brooklyn, New York.

The Irishman has said he would gladly give Diaz the trilogy, given he got his own shot at a rematch. He particularly pummeled McGregor when he had him pinned late in the second.

McGregor also mentioned the name of former middleweight king Anderson Silva before his fight with Nurmagomedov - hailing him as a "legend" of the game and touting the notion that he would be interested in taking on the Brazilian.

"I slapped him as promised", the 27-year-old teammate of Khabib Nurmagomedov wrote on Instagram, as translated by ESPN contributor Karim Zidan.
