Tillerson says no reason for Russian Federation to retaliate

"We deplore Russia's continued defence of the Assad regime even after the chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians", he said.

Defeating Islamic State, pushing Iranian influence out of Syria, and the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad are priorities for Washington, Haley said in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" which will air in full on Sunday. "If you look at his actions, if you look at his situation, it's going to be hard to see a government that's peaceful and stable with Assad".

On Thursday, President Trump authorized the use of military force in Syria, via a cruise missile strike, which targeted one of Bashar Al-Assad's airfields.

The regional alliance said the U.S. cruise missile strikes on the Syrian base which Washington said was involved in a chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians would not deter their forces from "liberating" all of Syrian territory.

Sen. Lindsey Graham on Sunday took perhaps the most aggressive Washington stance on the country's simultaneous effort to defeat ISIS and solve the Syrian crisis - calling for more USA troops in the terror fight and suggesting President Trump already has broad authority to order missile strikes on Syria. A week ago, Haley and Tillerson said that the USA was not working towards unseating Assad, and that such a decision should be up to the Syrian people.

Syria decried a US missile strike early Friday, April 7, 2017 on a government-controlled air base where USA officials say the Syrian military launched a deadly chemical attack earlier this week.

The comments were made by the USA ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, following a cruise missile attack on Friday (7 April) morning on a Syrian air base suspected of using chemical weapons against civilians.

Speaking on "Fox News Sunday", McMaster said the U.S. would take further action in Syria if necessary.

USA military presence in northern Syria is "illegal" and their aim to control area makes them "occupation" forces, the statement added.

The US strike against Syria was strongly condemned by Russian Federation, which also threatened to cut cooperation with the Americans in the fight against terror in Syria.

The two leaders noted the importance of continuing close cooperation in the political and diplomatic settlement of the chronic Syrian civil war, the statement said. I think we ought to ask them a question.

Syrian army forces had been losing ground across the country until Russian Federation intervened militarily in September 2015, propping up Mr Assad and protecting its own interests in the region.

"If this intervention is limited only to an air base, if it does not continue and if we don't remove the regime from heading Syria, then this would remain a cosmetic intervention", said Cavusoglu.

"Rest assured that we will liberate Syria from all kinds of occupying forces, it does not matter from where they came to the occupied part of Syria", the statement warned.

Speaking on a United States talkshow to be aired Sunday, Rex Tillerson insisted he had no concerns about possible retaliation by Moscow as "Russians were never targeted" in the strike and said defeating the IS group was the top priority for the U.S. in Syria.
