Somehow, in Detroit, we've witnessed both our NHL team and national team willingly fall backwards through time in the past five years. Not after one of the greatest games I've witnessed up close in 36 years of covering hockey - maybe the single greatest game - and certainly the most joyous, the most offensive, the fastest, the most skilled.

Perhaps the Giants figured that if the Dodgers were going to finally hit left-handers now, what were the odds they could be caught? So for now, the Dodgers can enjoy this little one-uppedness. After the injury, Bochy went to the mound to call for Cueto's replacement and right-handed reliever George Kontos trotted out from the bullpen. But through that, they've relied on the health of their core players.

Assault arrest for man who hit Sacramento mayor with pie
Police said Thompson received minor injuries. After the protester ran up and threw what one witness said was a pie with whipped cream in Johnson's face, Johnson reportedly attacked the man. The East Bay Express reports Johnson tackled the man and it ended in a bloody brawl. Miller wrote that one witness called the protester a "bloody pulp" after the incident.
