South Florida Remembering Pulse Nightclub Victims

Vigils, workshops, music events, and remembrance blood drives are being held across Orlando on Monday to commemorate the one-year mark.

At around 2 a.m. June 12, Mateen opened fire on a crowded gay nightclub which was celebrating "Latin Night". Pastor Brei Taylor of Oasis says she hopes her space can offer sanctuary for survivors and loved ones of the victims who may become overwhelmed by the day's events.

Flags were lowered to half-staff and church bells in Orlando rang 49 times in remembrance of the victims. Anderson was a friend and former co-worker of shooting victim Xavier Serrano Rosado, who was one of 49 people killed by Omar Mateen.

Democratic U.S. Reps. Darren Soto and Val Demings of Orlando and Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park intend to cosponsor a resolution in Congress Monday night and spend about an hour on the House of Representatives floor paying tribute to the 49 people murdered at Pulse past year.

President Trump recognized the first anniversary Monday of the deadly terror attack on the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, pledging in a tweet that America will "NEVER FORGET".

Impact Wrestling issued the following statement on their website regarding their planned tribute to the victims of the Pulse Nightclub tragedy in Orlando, Florida.

Hundreds of people dropped off flowers, drawings and cards at a memorial near Pulse to honour the 49 victims who lost their lives in the shooting one year ago. "This June 12, our entire LGBTQ community and our allies need to stand together and continue to show that we are a strong, united city that responds with love".

Jeannine Williams used to live within walking distance of Pulse and was a frequent visitor. "Orlando was proof love always wins". An exhibit of artwork from various memorial sites will also be on display at the Orange County History Center. She is charged with obstruction and with aiding and abetting in federal court. "I'm not looking for 'I'm sorry.' I feel like that doesn't help me".

"I want him to be remembered as someone who actually modeled that behavior, of being a part of his community, of being a good neighbor, being a good friend, a good son, a good family person", she said. She was not present for the attack and has pleaded not guilty.
