Solskjaer: Manchester United team selection a 'risk' at Fulham
Feb 10 2019
When the former Real Madrid, Chelsea and Inter Milan boss was asked about his objective for the rest of the season, he responded with a simple plan in mind: "Try to win as many points as possible and try nearly the miracle to end in fourth". "There were some good performances today, I have to say". The goals were Pogba's 12th and 13th of the season.
Pogba's first goal came in the 14th minute and by the 65th minute, he had completed his brace pushing goal tally in the EPL to 11 goals and eight assists - the most ever in his career in a single season.
Pogba has been a key figure since Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho December and the caretaker coach was delighted with what he saw from the midfielder.
Pogba later fired a warning to the chasing pack that they intend "to stay there", adding: "It feels great". So dominant was he against Fulham that one felt for Calum Chambers, the man charged with shackling him.
Fulham, he said, had given his side a few scares in the opening 10 minutes - but then United took control. Martial and Lingard have also supported the duo well with Matic and Ander Herrera also settling in well in the midfield.
Schuerrle came off near the start of the second half, giving way to Cyrus Christie as the Cottagers looked for ways to get themselves back in the game. "Paul can do that with his qualities".
"At the moment I'm just concentrating on getting us up the table", said Solskjaer.
Fulham were rattled and nine minutes later Martial showed just why they were right to have been concerned about him.
While United's supporters revelled in watching the legendary figure in the dugout mastermind another victory, Fulham's fans booed Claudio Ranieri down the tunnel after the final whistle. We conceded the counter-attack, and at that point it was more hard.
Their mood contrasted totally with the 4,000 festive away fans who applauded Pogba's fast feet and tricky moves.
Hence, Manchester United has a good chance to beat the Ligue 1 leaders to assert their dominance in European football. Pogba is the captain in everything but name, the leader in the dressing room and on the pitch. During Mourinho's time, it often looked like he was changing for the sake of changing and trying to prove a point to some of his players.
