SNL Denigrates Battle Wound of Former SEAL Dan Crenshaw

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE-'Seth Meyers Episode 1749

Davidson gave his first impressions of several midterm candidates, including Rick Scott and Peter King.

Davidson faced backlash after SNL's "Weekend Update" during which he delivered an controversial joke that Crenshaw's photo was "kinda cool", but that viewers might be "surprised he's a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie". "I'm sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever", the comedian said, continuing to laugh.

Crenshaw was injured during his third deployment in 2012 when he was hit by an IED blast during a mission in Afghanistan, according to his website.

Neither Davidson nor NBC has issued a formal apology to Crenshaw, although the comedian did poke fun at his own looks in the same segment in which he mocked Crenshaw. Four months later, fitted with a glass eye and his signature eye patch, Crenshaw was back on the shooting range in MS, training to rejoin his teammates.

Kenan Thompson, Davidson's "SNL" costar, explained on the "TODAY" show Monday why he thinks Davidson's joke "missed the mark".

But Crenshaw did not demand an apology from Davidson or NBC.

After outrage on social media, Crenshaw addressed the controversy in a tweet on Sunday, saying that he tries "not to offend" and tries harder "not to be offended". I think what they should do is maybe pull their money together and donate to some veterans charities out there who could really use some help.

"I like people who weren't captured, ' added Trump, who received five deferments during the Vietnam War, including one for 'bone spurs". They can do whatever they want. "They are feeling the heat from around the country right now, and that's fine". And here's the real atrocity in all of this: It wasn't even amusing.

The comedian then chose to turn the joke on himself, saying he knows he "shouldn't be making fun of how anyone looks".
