Shanshan Feng holds lead after second round at US Women's Open

Trump and his wife Melania were arrived at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, located 70 km to the west of NY city, around 15: 30 local time, after having attended earlier in Paris the military parade of the national holiday of 14 July, the us president was the guest of honour.

Shanshan Feng held a two-shot lead after Friday's second round at the U.S. Women's Open.

Acknowledging the crowds, the president waved, pointed and gave a thumbs-up, prompting squeals from a group of schoolgirls.

While American Brittany Lincicome had hoped that Donald Trump does not attend the test, for fear that its presence does not interfere with the normal conduct of the tournament, his compatriot Lexi Thompson, who has played golf in the past with Mr. Trump, has assured Friday that it had "not been intimated": "This is really interesting", she insisted.

The U.S. Golf Association issued a statement earlier on Friday welcoming President Trump.

Another South Korean, Seon Woo Bae, is in fifth place on five-under with Spaniard Carlota Ciganda tied in sixth place on four-under with three players.

"It is the first time a sitting president has attended the U.S. Women's Open, and is only the third occurrence in our entire championships history".

Only three sitting presidents have attended USGA events with Warren G. Harding (1921) and Bill Clinton (1997) going to the US Open.

Trump National was named as the site for the 2017 U.S. Women's Open in 2012, long before the golf-loving real estate magnate and reality TV star officially entered politics.

The USGA faced pressure to move the women's tournament because of Trump's previous crude remarks about women.

Trump arrived in a motorcade fresh from a Bastille Day trip to Paris, and watched from an enclosed viewing area near the 15th green, offering a few waves for cheering fans who eagerly snapped his picture.

Trump has spent several weekends at the club since his election in November, but none during an event of this magnitude: 156 golfers and their entourages, and thousands of fans.
