"When I look at my body now, I just see life". Earlier this year, Raisa donated her kidney to Gomez, who has been her lifelong friend.

"I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life", she said of breaking up with Makkonen.

".I'm so grateful for the older women who have lifted all of us up".

Singer Selena Gomez was honored by Billboard as the 2017 Women of the Year on Thursday evening. The former Fifth Harmony member performed her sultry single "Havana", which hit No. 1 on Billboard's pop songs charts this week. "I'm so exhausted watching it", she said following a stunning performance of her new song "Meaning of Life". As people speak out, I hope that feels powerful to them, because they deserve to feel that.

She's proud of her transplant scar. "Seeing all these women come up here tonight and say these attractive speeches with their awards is so inspiring", she told the crowd, then paying tribute to those who have helped her get to that point.

Gomez's thanked her team, talked about the platform she has been given, and thanked the female artists who first paved the way for her to become a star.

"That time for me was so painful and really hard and very lonely. That was the day I came home and she [Raisa] volunteered, she did it", Gomez told host Savannah Guthrie in an interview with NBC's The Today Show in October. I am incredibly blessed.

Accepting the award, Gomez said that she was grateful for all the support she has received throughout her career.

As for the Weeknd, she said they parted ways as besties, "genuinely about encouraging and caring [for each other], and that was pretty remarkable for me". In acting and in film, you're around a much more stable community.
