Russian Federation regrets, and rejects "paranoid U.S. concerns"
Jan 12 2018
Russian Federation used cyberwarfare, disinformation and military force to inhibit ties to the West by Georgia and Ukraine.
The 200-page report commissioned by Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland, the senior Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, draws from European experience to outline ways in which Russia's "malign influence operations" can be deterred.
USA intelligence agencies have concluded that a Russian intelligence operation, approved at the highest levels of the Kremlin, used hacked Democratic Party emails, phony social media accounts, disinformation and other tactics to try to help Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 race.
"Never before in American history has so clear a threat to national security been so clearly ignored by a US president", the 206-page report says.
In the past, Trump officials have given mixed messages about how to deal with Russian Federation, with Trump himself espousing more conciliatory policies, while others backing stronger responses, including financial sanctions and more US military weaponry for European allies.
"Without leadership from the President, any attempt to marshal such a response will be inherently weakened at the outset", it says.
The report voices concerns that Trump refuses to publicly acknowledge Russia's behavior as a direct threat to the United States and the West.
The administration pushed back hard.
The same can not be said in the United States. He has used the security services, the media, public and private companies, organized criminal groups, and social and religious organizations to spread malicious disinformation, interfere in elections, fuel corruption, threaten energy security, and more.
We know for sure that the Russians did launch an attack in order to sabotage our 2016 election. Ben Cardin of Maryland, rolled out the study during a week in which he and compatriots are taking the offense against Trump amid the sprawling Russian Federation imbroglio. The agencies did not look at whether the Russian effort affected any votes. The report shows that Putin's threat to the United States, and its allies, is growing. Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the nationalist LDPR party said US authorities "specifically want to play dirty tricks in front of the Russian Embassy", according to the BBC.
It also stresses the need to help European allies reduce their dependence on Russian energy supplies.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee ranking member Sen.
Russian Federation has repeatedly denied any effort to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. "While we will review the report in its entirety, including the recommendations, no further full committee activity is planned at this time".
The White House did not respond to requests for reaction to the report. Mueller and congressional committees investigating the matter have yet to reach a conclusion about whether any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation took place. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Corker, have in the past chided the Trump administration for missing key sanctions deadlines against Russian Federation. It predicts potential trouble ahead. "It will continue to develop and refine its arsenal to use in democracies around the world, including against U.S. elections in 2018 and 2020".
Dmitry Novikov, a member of Russia's Communist Party, told the Interfax news agency that, "The U.S. authorities have always been absorbed in their own game of interfering in Russian internal affairs". "It will continue to develop and refine its arsenal to use on democracies around the world, including against USA elections in 2018 and 2020". "We can learn from Europe", a Democratic aide said.
