Rumour: Retro Studios Working On Star Fox: Grand Prix For Nintendo Switch

Star Fox Grand Prix is cross between F Zero and Diddy Kong Racing claim rumours

The post on Reddit states the game is a mix of Diddy Kong Racing and F-Zero. As the creators and developers of the Metroid Prime series we were surprised to learn that Metroid Prime 4 was not being worked on at the studio.

A Star Fox racer certainly isn't what I'd have chosen for Retro to work on next, but, that said, it sounds like this project is essentially a new F-Zero in disguise. Boss fights would presumably get carried out as they already are in Star Fox games themselves with some tweaks to suit the new game, and it would be able to offer the trio of vehicle varieties that game was known for via the Arwing, Landmaster, and Blue Marine. But, naysayers aside, the suggestion of a new adventure for Star Fox could be true, and not just any old game.

It's also a little-known fact that Retro helped out extensively on Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS, and so do have quite a bit of experience making non-simulation-based racing games. "It is called Star Fox Grand Prix". A sequel, Donkey Kong Racing, was in development for the Gamecube but was eventually canceled due to Microsoft's acquisition of the studio. While others are wondering why this is a Star Fox title and not a new F-Zero.

While the name (and the game itself) hasn't been proven, a logo for Star Fox Grand Prix separately appeared on 4chan, which is more than enough reason for anyone to take this information with a pinch of salt. However, it's useful to note that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was widely chastised when it leaked prior to its proper E3 unveiling. If they have been, it's likely that the game is pretty far along in the development process.
