Ruby Rose unveiled as Batwoman: First image has fans swooning

Batwoman Whether You Like It or Not

Ruby Rose swings into action as Batwoman in the first photo of the actress in costume for CW's upcoming DC-TV crossover (via Deadline). Her black and red suit, designed by four-time Academy Award victor Colleen Atwood, also nods to the character's previous iterations with a classically cut cape with ruby red shading.

The 32-year-old actress will make her first appearance as Batwoman in The CW's crossover show "Elseworlds".

"First look", Rose captioned the post, adding bat and heart emojis.

Rose will likely have her own spinoff show as the Gotham City heroine, according to EW, as the network is now developing a Batwoman series. There's also a solo show in development for Rose's Batwoman for the 2019-20 television season.

A pilot for that series will be filmed after the "crossover event". Batwoman was originally introduced in the DC Universe in 1956 as a love interest for Batman, but she was phased out of the comics a few years later. "But don't call her a hero yet". In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope.

Rose left Twitter in August following backlash to her casting.

The Kate Kane iteration of the character, which Rose will play, is a lesbian who professes the Jewish faith and is, in the comic books at least, romantically involved with Gotham City detective Renee Montoya. "This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different". "Critics also accused Rose of not being a lesbian since she also refers to herself as gender-fluid".
