Karnataka Cop D Roopa Senior Transferred Amid Row Over'Jail Perks For VK Sasikala

D Roopa was transferred to the traffic department on Monday morning, days after she exposed AIADMK General Secretary Sasikala.

Roopa had alleged that two crore rupees had changed hands for providing additional facilities to AIADMK general secretary, V K Sasikala, who is now lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail.

"As a reward for bribing the prison authorities from Rao to jail warden, Sasikala gets special menu daily, cooked by special chefs in a special kitchen near the women's cell", Roopa had said in the report.

She had also cited that there were multiple instances of physical abuse, contraband smuggling and human right violations inside the facility at the behest of senior officials and select cartel of convicted prisoners. Before it turned out big, the Chief Minister issued notices to Roopa Moudgil and Satyanarayana Rao asked them to come out with their explanation on the issue. "If I am targeted for pointing out irregularities in the system, it is unfair".

The State government has already formed a committee headed by retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Vinay Kumar to look into the charge of "destruction of evidence" made by Roopa. No special treatment is being given to Sasikala, she told reporters on Thursday. Sasikala has been sent to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru and her bail plea has been rejected.

Responding to this, DIG Roopa said "let there be a fair fact finding inquiry to find out the truth".

According to Roopa's report, Sasikala's wasn't the only beneficiary. The tension escalated to the extent that she had to leave the jail premises in a hurry.

The Chief Minister pointed out that despite the immediate institution of inquiry into the irregularities; both Roopa and Director General of Police (Prisons) H N Sathyanarayana Rao went to the media to discuss the case.
