This was the first time in seven years that Guwahati hosted an worldwide cricket match and the incident that occurred after the match was over came as as a blot on the hosts.

Meanwhile, city police have arrested two persons on suspicion on their involvement in rock throwing at the bus of Australian cricket team.

The rain came down with Australia struggling on 118 for eight in 18.4 overs after being tied down by India's spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Several former and current Indian players have expressed their disappointment about the incident, including Ashwin Ravichandran and Rohit Sharma. The story was quickly reported after Aussie opener Aaron Finch shared photograph of the awful incident on Twitter saying, "Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel".

Australia's T20 skipper Aaron Finch, member of the visiting team, posted a photo of the brick attack on Twitter.

"Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!" Rocks were thrown at their bus which shattered the window and spread fear among the players.

According to a statement issued by the chief minister, Khanna termed the security and facilities provided to teams in Guwahati as immaculate and said these had set the benchmark for other events of such stature that India might host in the future.

No one was injured in the incident which happened as the team was returning to their hotel from the Barsapara Stadium on Wednesday morning AEST. The DGP said everything would become clear after the investigation is over.
