EDT, Aug. 22, 2018. Hurricane Erick is the fifth storm to make its way into the eastern Pacific Ocean so far this season. As both storms strengthen, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says it will monitor them via satellite.
This particular moon is called a black supermoon because it will be near its closest point to Earth. Black moon is a non-scientific name for the second new moon in a month, a somewhat rare event created by the flow of our manmade calendar.
