$3.8 billion Dakota Access oil pipeline begins service
Crude oil transported through the pipeline is sourced from six terminal locations in the North Dakota counties of Mountrail, McKenzie and Williams. Four Sioux tribes are now suing to shut down the line. Several Native American tribes also said the pipeline would destroy burial and prayer sites as well as culturally significant artifacts. The so-called DAPL, which was completed in early May, faced eco-terrorist actions earlier this year.
