Global deal reached to limit powerful greenhouse gases

Almost 200 nations have reached a deal, announced Saturday morning after all-night negotiations, to limit the use of greenhouse gases far more powerful than carbon dioxide in a major effort to fight climate change. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met officials from China, India and Pakistan during the talks this week. The world's two largest polluters, China and the US, laid the groundwork for the deal back in 2013.

European Lander Starts Descent to Mars

A European lander started a 3-day, million-kilometer (621,000-mile) descent to Mars on Sunday, October 16 , quitting its mothership to test technology for a daring mission to scout the Red Planet for signs of life. Craft must be built to survive a long trip from Earth, then a high-speed, ultra-hot journey through Mars' tenuous, carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere. It will be the first successful Mars landing for Europe.

Israel bans Galaxy Note 7 from flights

While it later insisted that all replaced devices were safe, there were reports that those phones were catching fire too. The U.S. Department of Transportation said , "Individuals who own or possess a Samsung Galaxy Note7 device may not transport the device on their person, in carry-on baggage, or in checked baggage on flights to, from, or within the United States ".
