Google's Android distribution stats for August show Marshmallow, Lollipop growth

Android Marshmallow gained 1.9 percentage points to hit 15.2 percent, though it's still in fourth place. To recall, Android Marshmallow in June was running on 10.1 percent active of Android devices. Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) slipped from 1.7 percent to 1.6 percent. KitKat (Android 4.4) dropped from 30.1 percent in July to 29.2 percent in August, while Jelly Bean (Android 4.1-4.3) fell from 17.8 percent to 16.7 percent.

Tesla Signs Deal To Buy SolarCity For $2.6 Billion

The deal follows an offer made by Tesla Motors to acquire SolarCity for $2.8bn in June 2016. The merger between Tesla and SolarCity is the latest big tech deal to pass Wall Street by. The vehicle maker said it expects to save US150mln in the first year as well as efficiency improvements from the tie-up, while beefing up the pair's combined balance sheet.

Alphabet reports boost in profits thanks to soaring mobile, video sales

Analysts on an average were expecting revenue of US$20.76 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. The company's shares surged more than 6 per cent in after hours trading, before easing to trade up about 3 per cent. Google parent Alphabet reported its second-quarter earnings today and, like Facebook yesterday, delivered numbers above the Street's expectations.
