Asteroid that Formed Moon's Imbrium Basin May Have Been Protoplanet-sized

Schultz and Crawford detailed their findings online today (July 20) in the journal Nature . And there could have been many other protoplanetary impacts like it. The grooves created by those chunks enabled Prof Schultz to estimate the size of the asteroid . These rocks will continue to travel at high speeds, scouring the impact crater's surface in a non-radial fashion.
