Redskins vs. Eagles weather forecast: A very bright start to the season

'OK' is good enough for Eagles

The NFC East figures to be a hotly contested division in the National Football League this season so all matchups between the four teams will be of the utmost importance, starting with an opening one between Philadelphia and Washington.

The wait is over, and the Philadelphia Eagles will finally being playing a game that matters when they travel to Landover, Maryland to face the rival Washington Redskins in week one. Holes in the secondary and struggles protecting Wentz emerged Sunday, just like they did at times to doom the team to a 7-9 record past year.

Having survived the ups and down, bumps and bruises of his rookie season, Wentz emerged as a leader on and off the field. If the media and fans weren't allowed to watch practice during training camp, they may have forgotten that he is even on the team since he didn't play a single game-snap this summer.

"There's a great feeling that you have as a quarterback when you're either in the shotgun or under center and you kind of look out there and you see your guy", Reich said. I liked Doctson a lot at TCU and it could work, but quarterback Kirk Cousins will have a lot on his shoulders early.

Will the Redskins take it and run or fumble it away? Unfortunately for them, Washington is not the kind of team you want to face when you're experimenting with your secondary, as Cousins can pick and choose between an array of talented receiving options.

Wentz led the Eagles (7-9 in 2016) to three straight wins to start the 2016 season, but they finished 4-9 in the final 13 games. When the Eagles and 'Skins first played on October 16, he wasn't yet the feature back, but a 45-yard run late in that game helped push him up the depth chart.

Last year's health woes took a mental toll on the former TCU star as he appeared in just two games and practiced rarely. These two could have a real impact if they cam stay healthy. Replacing Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson are free agent acquisition Terrelle Pryor Sr. and second year wideout Josh Doctson. LJ can make a big difference on Sunday toward Philly covering. Pryor could emerge as the red zone thread; Swearinger sets the tone on defense. Washington will go with a weak front three of Jonathan Allen, Ziggy Hood and Stacy McGee.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he is content with having running backs by committee and will utilize them based on the game plan against a particular opponent. So, the Redskins will turn to third-year pro Deshazor Everett.

The all-time history between the two teams is solidly in the Redskins' favor. Swearinger said he has the ultimate confidence that Everett could get the job done. Coach Pederson will need a well-balanced attack to make sure his offense runs like a well-oiled machine.
