Police may seek arrests over Penn State celebration, damage

It worked out great Sunday for Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Washington. After that game, Iowa played championship- caliber football the rest of the season, outscoring its last three opponents 82-23 and earning a spot in the Outback Bowl against Florida. No. 1 Alabama, No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Washington won their respective conference title games in decisive fashion, so it's unlikely any of those teams will fall.

"You come together as a family", he said, "and play the game and put guys in position to be successful and have the opportunity to play in one of the more storied bowl games ever and play one of the more historic programs like USC".

The circumstances are different in so many ways this time, starting with the fact the Penn State has more ground to make up than those Buckeyes and an extra loss on its resume. Instead of playing the other best team in the league, the Nittany Lions played Wisconsin, a team that had the conference's fourth-best mark at 7-2, in Indianapolis.

With the college football season finishing up and moving towards the Bowls, there is a lot of talk about the playoff.

The unbeaten Crimson Tide (13-0) are in the playoff for the third straight season, and are the top seed for the second time. When the team was 2-2 and coming off a 49-10 shellacking at the hands of the Michigan Wolverines, even less people would have thought this was a possibility.

"We're thankful for everything we've got with this year".

Washington, the conference champion, was one of the four teams selected for the national playoff, allowing the Rose Bowl to fill the Huskies' spot with the second-highest ranked team from the Pac-12.

Wisconsin, which gained 241 rushing yards, pushed back with a 10-play, 51-yard drive in the final minutes of the game, but Penn State stopped Clement on a fourth-and-1 to thwart any final attempt to tie the game.

Alabama is the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff and will meet No. 4 Washington in a semifinal game at the Peach Bowl on December 31.

USC will play in the Rose Bowl game for the first time in eight years on January 2 when it faces Penn State, it was announced Sunday.

Alabama is the only team to be in all three editions of the CFP so far. Meyer acknowledged that hasn't been the case, and the next few weeks will give the team valuable time to work on it.

Penn State: Consider the turnaround is complete. The Badgers will play Western Michigan in the Cotton Bowl on January 2 in Arlington, Texas. But it has happened in college football before the NCAA was formed in the 1930s - Yale won 15 games in 1889 and a record 16 games in 1894. Sam Darnold took over the Trojans nine games ago, and the Pac-12's offensive freshman of the year has steered their winning streak with 2,633 yards passing and 26 touchdowns. Sorry fellas but win your conference and you get in. Temple goes to the Military Bowl to take on Wake Forest on December 27 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.

Alabama has ended the regular season at No. 1 in the AP Top 25.

The Lions and ninth-ranked Trojans (9-3, 7-2) followed a similar journey to make it to one of the six marquee bowl games.

Despite not playing for the Big Ten championship on Saturday night, the Buckeyes - winners of the first CFP national title in the 2014 season - earned a spot in the four-team field due to their overall resume.

Two teams finished with 8-1 records this year in the Big Ten: Ohio State and Penn State.

With 9:54 remaining in the third quarter Penn State took over at their own 20-yard line.

It promises to be an interesting Sunday afternoon in college football.

BYU (8-4) accepted a bid to this year's Poinsettia Bowl back in November 2013 - and will also be there in 2018, provided the Cougars aren't in the College Football Playoff that season.
