PGA Championship: Tiger Woods looking for 15th major

Justin Thomas dedicated his win to former PGA Tour player Jarrod Lyle who is battling cancer for the third time

It's been three years since the Australian star broke through at the 2015 US PGA Championship, but Day admits he demands more from his rare talent. "We're better together than apart".

Woods, set to be an assistant captain alongside Love in September's showdown with Europe at France's Le Golf National, must win the Wanamaker trophy for a record-tying fifth time to earn a berth on the USA squad on points.

Furyk had to rely on a pick in 2012, and he wasn't so fortunate in 2016, when he finished 15th in the points and went to Hazeltine as a vice captain.

Woods has committed to the team as an assistant to the U.S. captain, Jim Furyk.

St. Louis, MO, USA; PGA of America chief executive officer Pete Bevacqua addresses the media in a press conference during the Wednesday practice round of the PGA Championship golf tournament at Bellerive Country Club.

Furyk took five players with him to Le Golf Nacional in Paris the weekend before the British Open to see the Ryder Cup course - Finau was part of that group, along with Watson, Spieth, Kisner and Brian Harman. He also won the Players Championship.

Action will start tomorrow and continue until Sunday (August 17).

But Woods isn't most, and his comeback won't be complete until re-enters the winner's circle for the first time since 2013. McIlroy is the best driver of the golf ball in the world, and if the course plays soft due to the rain then he could run away with major No. 5.

It has been 99 years since the PGA Championship was won by an Englishman, Jim Barnes.

"Obviously, to see Francesco winning The Open was a fantastic moment for Francesco, but when you sit on the sidelines as captain, you want to see guys do well in the big championships", Bjorn said. Last week Rory was playing a driver and seven iron into the 16 hole that was playing at 648 yards... real yards, albeit all downhill. "But, I think, within myself, I would be happier to play the golf that I'm playing because I'm giving myself chances almost every week that I tee it up". As you know, we notified the players we wanted to build up slowly to getting them to where we need, knowing that Tuesday or certainly Monday was nearly 100 degrees temperature with high humidity followed by yesterday, an inch and a half of rain. "You know, you could win five times in a year and not win a major, and some people would think, "Well, you haven't won a major" - for some of the elite anyway". 9, 10 and 11 played.

"When I play a bad round, I fester a little bit, but now I go home and I'll be with the kids or they want to talk and FaceTime", Woods said, adding, "When it's time to play, it's time to play, and when it's not, it's just different".

Oosthuizen, who completed the unwanted feat of a career Slam of second-place finishes in golf's four elite events past year, is the highest-ranked of the half dozen golfers carrying the South African flag this week. "We were saying, like, what are his kids' friends going to say when they go back to school?"

"Now it's about embracing the new challenge and trying to work as hard as possible.to stay up where I am now and improve even further", Molinari said.

Mickelson said his children were cool with it.

"I think it's a great pairing for me".

Jason Day and Tiger Woods at the WGC Invitational last week. After his Saturday round at the World Golf Championships event in OH, he stepped to the podium wiping perspiration from his face. Without skipping a beat, Woods replied, "Before or after?"

"It's really fun", Spieth said, "when you get a chance to play in front of family". You really have to take notice of that.

The injury speculation on Twitter was rampant, but Woods confirmed on Saturday that he felt "fine", and chalked up his performance to playing "like crap".

As he said after the final round at Carnoustie: "Given where I was to where I'm at now, blessed".
